I had just fired up ye olde Firefox to look at some porn and suddenly felt an urge to check out your blog. Since the ramifications of that cause and effect are too horrible to contemplate, I shall instead castigate you for your failure to be an awesome artist.
Actually, that’s too harsh a statement. You don’t need castigating, just practicing. In general, yes, you have improved over the years and I’m glad to see that your irregular bouts of creativity are paying off. On the other hand, if you’re deliberately emulating an anime style, which I suspect, knock it off. Speaking from personal experience and the wisdom imparted upon me via numerous George Bridgman texts, you need to learn to do it right before you deliberately start doing it wrong (artistic style is nothing but consistant inaccuracy; philosophize on that for a while). Basically, you’re killing your art with wonky anatomy and proportions. I’m certain you know this, but knowing is half the battle; the other half is doing it, and that means drawing characters with elbows that don’t need major reconstructive surgery, etc. Get the foundation right before you hit it with the flashy bits.
Since I like to sprinkle a little good in with the bad, I’ll note you did a bang-up job with the perspective and foreshortening of the gun arm. The color work is nice as well, quite atmospheric. Have you had a chance to play with Corel Painter? It has a wonderful watercolor capability that might suit your look.
Ah, quite the ramble. If brevity is the soul of wit, then I’m a complete dumbass. See what you get when you draw the eye of Sauron upon you, Dan? A hideous, diabolic glare replete with art criticism. God bless the internets.
I haven’t had the pleasure of Corel- though I hear good things. I’m gradually trying to put more art practice into my life, always have more good will than time though. Briefly tried some art classes but everything was just too hectic to get to them regularly.
Basically what I ned is some extensive time with a pencil (What I do, is work then buy materials and books because I’m too tired to draw :) ) I know all this, I need more practice, but I put my stuff up here anyway, because I can. Also it forces me to see if every day for a week and encourages me to do it better next time. You’ll probably see some more of me emulating Anime style though, I’m in an Anime phase. I don’t know why.
Actually the stuff I don’t put up is infinitely more horrible, and you would have clawed out your eyes. So in a way, be thankful.
Awesome. Fort.

me likes :D
